The rules of the island

1.

Please do not bring any thing that plugs into the power especially hair dryers, kettles, fridges, camp fridges/freezers, heaters etc. mobile phones, computers, I pads are all fine. We use stored solar power which is in limited supply. If you over load our solar by using these appliances you will lose your bond.

4.

No smoking in the house.

2.

Be power conscious and turn off lights that are not being used.

5.

Please be careful cooking fish and crabs in the house. Clean up well.

3.

  1. Be water conscious. Keep showers short and make sure all the taps are turned off.

6.

Fillet fish and clean crabs outside in tmhe designated area. ( Fish cleaning area down by the ramp). Please keep the area clean and wash with sea water after use.

7.

Keep the noise to a minimum and be respectful of others who are also enjoying the peace and quite that Stewart Island offers.

8.

No fuel on the deck or in the house.

The Biolytic System.

All waste water from the house including sewerage goes into a biolytic system which naturally processes the waste using a special variety of worms. The clean water is then pumped out into a network of pipes under the lawn.

So please no chemicals, sanitary pads or anything unnatural into our toilets. Use only biocycle friendly products.

We provide hand and body wash and dish washing liquid.

Swimming

Be careful swimming in the straits, we do see sharks from time to time. Better to keep to the shallows in front of the houses at high tide. Keep a good eye on your children as the currents can be quite strong over the sand bank at times.

During summer there have been Irukandji jelly fish spotted further north on the inside of Fraser Island.

Cleaning

Please leave our home the way you found it. Allow enough time before your departure to clean the kitchen, bathroom, sweep the floors and give them a quick mop. You will find everything you need in the laundry.

Due to the location of the property we don’t have access to cleaners.

Fires

Please don’t not light any fires on the island.

Anchoring your boat

Please anchor your boat in front of our villa’s. Don’t anchor in front of any of the other houses or use any of the moorings. In case of storms make sure you anchor your boat well. Use a long anchor on the front of your boat and back anchor it to the mainland, with either a second anchor or onto one of the foreshore gum trees. Don’t tie off to our pontoon.

Be careful parking your boat at the pontoon at high tide as we can get large wash waves off big boats traveling down the Straits, throwing your boat against the pontoon and potentially damaging your boat.

Be aware of the green zones and sped zones around Stewart Island and the Sandy Straits in general. Be very careful that you don’t exceed 6 KNTs in the go slow zones, they are actively patrolled especially the area from the western low tide banks on Dream Island all the way east into all the Fraser Island creeks. Also be aware of your catch limits and size, this is actively patrolled.

Please don’t drink and drive your boat the police keep a close eye on the water ways.

Dogs are not permitted beyond the property boarder. We don’t have any fencing on the island and would prefer that you don’t bring pets with you to the island.
